In September 2023, attorney Doug McDermott settled a lawsuit alleging that the owner of an adult family home in Kirkland, Washington, and a financial advisor at UBS, conspired to take advantage of an elderly resident of the adult family home with an estate worth more than $3.0 million. The case was filed after it was discovered that the elderly resident had been persuaded to change his will to virtually disinherit his closest family members, while giving the majority of his estate to the owner of the adult family home and the financial advisor. The case settled after a successful outcome at the Washington Court of Appeals.
